Mariela Castro In San Francisco: Cuban President’s Daughter To Meet With Gay Rights Groups

SAN FRANCISCO — Cuban first daughter Mariela Castro is planning to meet with San Francisco’s lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community during a U.S. visit next week that is being opposed by some Cuban-American politicians.

The San Francisco LGBT Center said Friday that it would host the meeting Wednesday night, the day before Castro is scheduled to lead a panel at a conference organized by the Latin American Studies Association.

Rangers Beat Devils 3-0 In Game 3: Henrik Lundqvist Shuts Out New Jersey With 36 Saves

NEWARK, N.J. — Henrik Lundqvist stopped all 36 shots, and Dan Girardi, Chris Kreider and Ryan Callahan scored third-period goals to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday.

The Rangers scored two goals only 1 minute, 57 seconds apart early in the third to help them take a 2-1 series lead.

FRESNO, Calif. — The nation called Ed Ray a hero when he led a terrified group of children to safety after they were kidnapped aboard their school bus and held underground for ransom in the summer of 1976.

After being cleared Friday of allegations that he raped his 20-month-old twin daughters, Paul Rusconi cried. It’s been almost a year since distant family members, the nanny who took care of Rusconi’s two girls, and her husband, accused him of raping his daughters after seeing photos that he had taken of himself with his girls in a bathtub, KTLA reported. VATICAN CITY — VATICAN CITY (AP) – The Vatican has denounced as “criminal” a new book of leaked internal documents that shed light on power struggles inside the Holy See and the inner workings of its embattled bank, and warned that it would take legal action against those responsible.

Pope Benedict XVI has already appointed a commission of cardinals to investigate the “Vatileaks” scandal, which erupted earlier this year with the publication of leaked memos alleging corruption and mismanagement in Holy See affairs and internal squabbles over its efforts to comply with international anti-money laundering norms.

George W. Bush Returning To White House To Be Honored By Obama With Official Portrait

George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, are expected to return to the White House later this month to be honored by President Barack Obama with the unveiling of their official portraits that will hang at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Clad in purple socks, a nod to Louisiana State University’s trademark purple and yellow, and standing beneath a shimmering disco ball, veteran newsman Bob Schieffer told graduates of the LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication that journalism was changing and politics were dying, but being a reporter is still the most fun you can have.

In an ultimately uplifting speech, the longtime CBS News reporter and current moderator of “Face the Nation” did not shy away from offering his personal opinions about our “broken” political system, which, he said, has reached a state of unbreakable gridlock.

“There’s something wrong,” Schieffer said, “when this much money has become the overpowering force in our politics.”

Ann Doyle, Michigan Republican, Bitten By Dog While Campaigning For State House Race

FRANKENMUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A woman running for the Michigan Legislature was bitten by a dog while going door to door. The dog’s distressed owner has made amends: Ann Doyle can put a campaign sign on his property.

Doyle says she was bleeding and blacked out but is doing much better. She won’t identify the dog’s owner but says he agreed to take a campaign sign. Doyle calls it a “sympathy vote.”
